Yesterday, Dec 9, Pinewood defeated Sequoia 77 - 14 in the first round of the Notre Dame Holiday Classic.
Today, Dec 10, Pinewood defeated Sacred Heart Prep 49 - 42, in a tightly fought game. At the end of the 3rd quarter, Pinewood was up by just 2 points. This was an exciting game for every minute, against a formidable opponent. We faced Sacred Heart Prep last year in the Div V CCS championship and knew this would not be an easy game. Both teams played tough defense. Congratulations to the Panthers!

Girls' Varsity BBall - Notre Dame Belmont championship game coverage, Dec 11
The girls' varsity bball team (2-1) played an outstanding game against Sacred Heart Cathedral today, just barely missing the championship. Pinewood gained the lead after the first two minutes, and led by 13 at the half. Sacred Heart Cathedral closed the game to within 1 point at the end of the third quarter. The Panthers played a terrific 4th quarter, and still had a 1 point lead with 2.1 seconds to go. A controversial call took the Irish to the free throw line and the championship, with the final score 51-48. Daniela Roark, Sami Field-Polisso and Liz Altmaier won all-tournament honors.
Given the terrific game the Panthers played against a team ranked #6 overall in Northern California (independent of division) by CalHi Sports, the team is clearly off to a tremendously strong start!

Boys' Basketball Beats Harker
The boys' JV basketball team convincingly defeated Harker, 39-20, for a 1-0 start in league. The varsity (4-1, 1-0) followed suit in a back-and-forth game and finally triumphed 44-43 despite lacking juniors Mehruss Abdollahi and Varoon Bose due to injuries. The varsity boys fought back from a nine point halftime deficit off of three pointers and strong drives from seniors Josh Raskoff and Vishal Natarajan and tough inside play off the bench from senior Villiami Vea. With five seconds left in the game, Harker attempted would what have been a game-winning basket, but pressure and help defense forced them into a miss and led the boys to their win. Congratulations!
